What you need to know before purchasing
one of our downloadable murder mystery games
As with any digital purchase, the downloadable murder mystery games are not returnable, so please ensure you read the information below before committing to your purchase.
Within 24 hours of receipt of order, you will be sent an email containing a link to the downloadable files for your murder mystery game. Occasionally, on a weekend or public holiday, there may be an unavoidable delay in sending you the link, in which case, we will advise you accordingly and you will have the opportunity to cancel your order.
To open the downloaded files, you will need a PDF reader. We strongly recommend Adobe Acrobat, which you can download free of charge from the internet. If you have any problems in downloading or opening the files, please contact us.
You should be aware that if you purchase a downloadable murder mystery game, you will be required to spend some time preparing the components. This may take a few hours depending on the speed of your printer. However, the majority of this time will be spent printing the scripts, and you are advised to print all eight or ten copies at once rather than one at a time. You can then leave your printer to run while you do something else. You should prepare the components of the game well in advance of your party.
The downloadable murder mystery games offer a different experience for the host to that of the boxed games, in which the character booklets, scripts, clues and, where relevant, secret items, are delivered sealed to prevent the host viewing them. Obviously, in delivering the downloadable games and requiring the host to prepare the components, it is impossible to provide the same safeguards.
The host should avoid reading the printed material, and the components of the murder mystery game should be prepared following the accompanying instructions. Whether the host gleans information from the components or not is beyond the control of Murderous Acts! and is down to the individual host. Ultimately, if in preparing the components, the host discovers some of the characters' secrets and/or establishes the identity of the murderer, this should not spoil the enjoyment of the game. The host will simply have an insight that should not be shared with the other players. Even for the less inquisitive host, the preparation of the components without inspecting them is likely to stir up some excitement.
Two of the murder mystery games require the host to provide a component that cannot be replaced digitally. It is an everyday item that can be easily sourced. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us.
In the boxed murder mystery games, some of the clues are tangible objects. In the downloadable games, these tangible objects have been replaced by photographs, and therefore some improvisation may be required when revealing these clues.
To prepare the components of the downloadable murder mystery games, you will require all or some of the following depending on the game:
A duplex colour printer
White A4 paper, preferably 100 gsm and 75 gsm
Paper trimmer/guillotine or straight edge and cutting knife
White envelopes, minimum size 114 x 162 mm
White A4 card
White labels, size 63.5 x 29.6 mm
Thin ribbon or string if you do not have a long-reach stapler (see below)
Glue stick if not using white labels (see below)
And the following items are preferable but not essential:
Pre-perforated white place cards, size 85 x 46 mm
A long-reach stapler
White labels, size 99 x 38 mm
Photo paper
